Frigates

The recent naval activity on the Clyde has prompted one of our correspondents to send us this photograph of a very brief visit which HMS Westminster (F237) and HMS Lancaster (F229) paid to Campbeltown 29 September 2007. The two Type 23 frigates seemed to be engaged in officer of the watch manoeuvres of "follow my leader" as they entered the loch at very slow speed, turned off the refuelling facility and disappeared as quickly at they had arrived.

Maersk Beaumont

ClydeNavalGazing correspondent Neil Robertson braved 33 knot gusts to capture these excelllent shots of Maersk Beaumont 12 May 2009.

Sealand Performance

Another Maersk container ship Sealand Performance arrived off the Ayrshire coast for lay-up 14 May 2009. I think that this is the first US registered ship to lie in the lower Clyde since the "meet the fleet" in the early 1970's (albeit the previous visitors were coloured grey)?

Vega Stockholm

An interesting comparison of scale (for me, at least), container vessel Vega Stockholm passes container vessel Maersk Beaumont 14 May 2009.

Ex Lismore ferry Lochnell made an appearance in Largs Bay 13 May 2009.
